Our Story

I'm Dan, and I've been making things with wood for most of my life.

Before The Working Gallery there were careers in IT, development and teaching — but running quietly alongside all of it was woodworking. It's always been where I'm most myself. A spell building wooden yachts sharpened my skills in ways that still show up in every frame I make today.

I started picture framing over twenty years ago when my wife began collecting artwork and I needed a wood project I could finish in a weekend. I trained to Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG ) standards and hold an advanced award in textile framing. What began as a weekend project became a lifelong craft.

My approach is simple: frame for the artwork first. Respect what's been entrusted to you. Preserve it properly. The FATG standards exist for a reason and I work to them without compromise.

Integrity is how you behave when no one is watching. What happens inside a frame — the materials, the methods, the conservation decisions nobody sees — matters as much as what you see on the wall. Sometimes more.
