Conservation & Museum-Level Framing
Why are there different levels of framing?
The whole reason for conservation and museum-level framing is to preserve artwork that may be of cultural and historical importance for generations to come. This can also include your treasured artwork and items that you love and want to preserve.
It is intended to be reversible so no permanent harm is done to the artwork and that it can be safely removed when needed for processes such as cleaning and reframing.

How we conserve artwork
A Focus on Quality
We hold our work to the high standards set by the Trade Guild of Fine Art, utilising specialist techniques and materials to preserve for the future.
Tackling environment
Environmental and light damage can be caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light and heat, humidity and moisture, pollutants and dust.
We can assist protection against these issues using specialist glass to block harmful UV, sealed frames to block moisture that can cause mould spotting and ripples developing, and sealed packages to stop insects, dust and other pollutants that can stain and damage your artwork.
Materials that degrade
Chemical degradation can be caused by the lignin in wood, used in framing products, that breaks down and produces gases and acids that burn leaving browning on artwork, making it brittle and can even cause it to crumble. This damage over time reduces the vibrancy of the colours and the overall impact of the piece as intended by the artist.
We have conservation grade mounts, backing boards and tapes to allow us to frame to these levels preserving your artwork for many years to come.
Physical stress
Physical wear and stress, can occur from accidental dropping, insecure artwork and also artwork positioned too close or touching the glass.
These issues can be overcome with many of the techniques mentioned above plus the use of spacers that separate the artwork from the glass, especially important in preventing friction, adhesion to the glass and moisture build up.
